Punks

Posted by claudette on July 25, 2010

Chasing these rockers through alleyways in Bangkok and getting lost all in the name of a picture.  Just as I was thinking I should back off I come around the corner and they are all sitting there.   They definitely noticed that I was following them so I immediately smiled and asked if I could take their picture, laughter ensued.

Capitalism

Posted by claudette on July 24, 2010

This ladies profitable little business in India just brought a smile to my face.  Everyone has to eek out a living right!  She laughed at me and must of truly thought I was a mad woman for wanting her picture.  She is selling cow patties!   Indians use these patties for cooking fuel and warmth in the winter which is excellent since they are all natural so no need to cut down a tree right.  The collection process is fairly simple….follow a cow!  It is best collected when its fresh so it’s soft enough to pat down flat, hence all the hand prints on each patty.   I suppose if someone tried to steal some of these patties she would be able to easily identify them since her hand prints are all over them…LOL

Tanah Lot

Posted by claudette on July 22, 2010

A temple in the ocean!  We visited during the day so you can walk up to the temple and talk to the priests.  Prayers can be made inside but only by balinese.  If you go in the evening you can catch a spectaular sunset if your lucky but you can’t go near the temple as the ocean engulfs it!

Rice Terraces

Posted by claudette on July 20, 2010

Looking at these rice terraces is spectacular!  They are just soooo green you would think that you are looking at a picture or certainly something that’s not real.   Kinda like being in the twilight zone and you zone out for a moment and you are taking it all in and enjoying it immensely and then all of a sudden you are pushed back to reality….wait a minute….here comes some guy tromping through the rice terraces coming straight towards you and you damn well know he’s coming to sell you something!  It’s always some useless piece of junk that you really don’t want but you know he makes his living this way so you buy it anyways and end up leaving it in your room as you move on!  Check out what this guy was selling :)   He was a cutie!

This reminds of a time travelling in India…. I was in an ambassador car going though Rajisthan with my driver Mr. Singh.  Driving through Jodphur we passed a young backpacker who had his day pack/wallet in the air with 20 kids around him hollering and waving their arms begging for money.  Mr. Singh turned to me and in his Indian accent said “you are never alone in India”  Now that’s a understatement!  I never laughed so hard and it makes me chuckle to this day.  Thank you India for the memories!  It seems many places in the world you are never alone!  Even here in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  We have our sales men on the streets trying to lure you into their stores and they holler out slogans as you pass by.  One night we’re strolling down 5th Ave. and one of the guys hollers “hey big spenders”  Dave looks at him and says “I don’t have any money”  “ok….Kmart shoppers, please come in”  :)   Always entertaining.  Capitalism is worldwide!!!

Random Shots in Bali

Posted by claudette on July 17, 2010

My room in Ubud, Bali.  Beautiful!

It was really nice to see my sister in Kuta, Bali.  Hadn’t seen her in over 5 years so it was memorable. We had a fantastic time wandering around Kuta shopping, talking, lunch and then meeting later in the evening for the best Indian food ever!  Why can’t Playa del Carmen have a real Indian restaurant?  Is there really no one that cooks great Indian food that would want to live here?  Please!  Just one fantastic little hole in the wall that serves….Paneer butter masala……mmmm I do believe there is enough people from around the world here that like Indian food but it has to be good!  and you have to have chipatis!

yep….this spider is big enough to swallow your face :)

Another cutie that should be in school rather than collecting for the shitter….maybe this was taken on a Sunday but I doubt it!!!

Some lazy asshole trying to get the worlds record for the longest finger nails.  He was devastated that the pinkie broke :)   I know I have a lack of sympathy for all this bull shit in the world but isn’t there just way too much to put up with?

Now Absolut is by far my favorite martini mix so seeing this is just too much!  At least the bottles are being put to good use.

Well….we all know what is going on here!  Bali really is the island of Eat, Pray, Love!

Gunung Agung

Posted by claudette on July 16, 2010

Gunung Agung is the highest peak on the island of Bali at 3142 M.  This volcano is very spectacular and still active.  The last major eruption was in 1963 but you can still see smoke and heat rising if you catch it on a special day.  I would love to see inside but that involves a lot of work!  You have to hike up the mountain and we just didn’t feel that enthusiastic, never do!

Viewing it from a distance was enough for me  After all, what if you were hiking up there and it decided to spit up or something, what then?  During our visit in Bali there was a Dutch girl that fell inside on a hike and this also changed my mind about the adventure of it all.  I guess March is one of the wet months and the hiking trail was muddy and she slid right in there!!

I am also aware and I fully admit that I might have a difficult time as I’m currently and have been for the last 20+ years….. Mrs. Marlboro Light and I would prefer to sit on the side lines with a cig. and a glass of wine but please……..whatever you are into….by all means!!  Fly at er!

The cutest little girl who was soooo insistent on us buying her postcards that she eventually won us over, of course!.  Delightful child but she likely should have been in school rather than trying to make money with tourists.

Kuta Cowboys

Posted by claudette on July 14, 2010

I received this news clip via email from Nicole and her email title was “Why didn’t the Gigolos try to pick us up?”   Her husband Jeff had come across this article on the internet   Honestly I had just scanned the email quickly at the time and figured pfffft!   Too bad for them.  Now I realize…..we are fabulous, fun, sexy chicks and the only logical explanation is that they were all in jail!!

Can you believe the Kuta cowboys are being arrested in Bali for having affairs with foreign women.  How deplorable hey!  There is only about a 1/2 dozen places that I can think of around the world, many that I have experienced 1st hand that are truly a paradise on earth for men. WTH…why not a place for women?   Possibly the book Eat, Pray, Love gave waaaaaay too many women ideas…..suck it up Bali!  You have gorgeous people and you should be pleased!

A movie I would like to see which exposes the Kuta cowboys :)

KDT

Posted by claudette on July 14, 2010

KDT is one of the greatest party places on the island of Bali.  Ku De Ta for all of you that have never been to Bali.  Located right on the beach in Seminyak this place has some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world!  The restaurant serves great food and the bar has excellent drinks and music but bring your wallet!  The parties during peak season are amazing but unfortunately in March there wasn’t much happening…maybe the next trip.  Check out this video of some of the events held at KDT.
